Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation
On Screen in Person Film Tour

Allentown Symphony Association recently received a Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation grant award to host the new On Screen In Person film programOn Screen In Person is made possible through funding from the National Endowment for the Arts’ Regional Touring Program.

Motion pictures have long captivated the American Public. Film has become as associated with the United States as its indigenous art forms of jazz and modern dance. The art of film continues to attract some of the country’s most creative artists and produce some of its most compelling works of art.  Independent film makers in the United States make an immeasurable contribution to the development of this dynamic art form through their investigation of subject matter and aesthetic experimentation.

ON Screen In Person brings the vision of some of the country’s best independent filmmakers to Allentown Symphony Hall. Film Directors will appear at Symphony Hall  with each film on the scheduled dates noted below to provide context of their work, and stimulate general discussion. There will be ample opportunity for Q&A.

Family Talk
Director, Sara Terry

Thursday MARCH 1, 2012 at 8:00PM - Tickets

Victims and perpetrators of Sierra Leone's brutal civil war come together for the first time in an unprecedented program of tradition-based truth-telling and forgiveness ceremonies. Through reviving their ancient practice of fambul tok (family talk), Sierra Leoneans are building sustainable peace at the grass-roots level -- succeeding where the international community's post-conflict efforts failed. Filled with lessons for the West, Family Talk explores the depths of a culture that believes that true justice lies in redemption and healing for individuals -- and that forgiveness is the surest path to restoring dignity and building strong communities.
