33 Variations
A New Play by Moises Kauffman
February 24 - March 10
Civic Theatre of Allentown

A mother coming to terms with her daughter … A composer coming to terms with his genius … And, even though they're separated by 200 years, these two people share an obsession that might, even just for a moment, make time stand still. Inspired by Beethoven's final work (Opus 120 or the 33 Diabelli Variations), “33 Variations” is a new American play by MOISÉS KAUFMAN, author of The Laramie Project and director of I Am My Own Wife. A musicologist who is fighting ALS -- Lou Gehrig's disease -- races against the clock to finish her research on Beethoven's manuscripts while trying to repair a difficult relationship with her daughter.  Called “a must see” by the New Yorker and nominated for five 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Play, “33 Variations” is an extraordinary play about passion, parenthood and the moments of beauty that can transform a life.
